You have bought a new unlit artificial Christmas tree and wonder how many lights you need to light up your fake tree. You want your tree to be the first thing guests see when entering your living space. Here are some ways to determine how many lights your tree may need.
The Number of LEDs
You can put a few lights, too many if you prefer, on your fake Christmas tree. How many lights you need depends on you. But the general rule is that 100 bulbs are recommended for every 2 feet of your tree if you want the best coverage. So, if you have a six-foot tree, ideally, you will need 300LEDs to light it up. Here is some guidance for different tree sizes:
- 3-Foot Tree 150 Bulbs
- 4-Foot Tree 200 Bulbs
- 5-Foot Tree 300 Bulbs
- 6-Foot Tree 400 Bulbs
- 7-Foot Tree 500 Bulbs
You can use twice the amount of lights to make your unlit artificial Christmas tree sparkle. So, for your 4-foot tree, you can use 360 bulbs; for your 6-foot tree, use 600; for an 8-foot tree, go for 1000 plus lights. Another factor to consider is the home’s ceiling and window lights, which can affect the tree’s look when the lights change. Hence, consider the brightness during the afternoon and night.
Take The Decorations On Your Tree Into Consideration
Decorations are another thing to consider when adding lights to your Christmas tree. Before buying the bulbs, work out how many decorations you will hang on the tree. We know this is trickier as ornaments come in different sizes and shapes. You can fit more onto the branches with small baubles and decorations. But heavier ones add weight and limits their use.
Different Types of Christmas Lights
The other thing to consider is the light type you plan to use. You can find different styles available to place on your unlit artificial Christmas tree.
- String lights are your classic type to create a festive feeling. Many refer to the LED string light as fairy lights. It has medium-sized bulbs alternating on each side of the wire. It is available in various colors and lengths to shapes. It provides an even display of sparkle on the tree; you will need to double the number for a fuller appearance.
- Cluster lights are ideal if you want to brighten up your tree. You get the most lights per string with average spaces between the bulbs. The bulbs alternate in the cluster groups and will have five bulbs on one side and five on the other. So you can get a complete decorative look with different colors.
- Battery-powered lights are great to use if you have a shortage of space and no plugs nearby.
